For my Graduate Typography 3 course under Professor Gloria Kondrup, I developed 'Girlhood' – a comprehensive exhibition design project that reimagines how fashion and popular culture have shaped feminine identity across generations. The project consists of three exhibition posters and a detailed historical catalog, designed to promote and complement an exhibition at the de Young Museum.

The catalog takes readers on a chronological journey spanning nearly 150 years, from the corseted silhouettes of the 1880s to today's fluid fashion landscape. Each chapter, designed in distinctive duotone palettes, examines two decades of fashion evolution, revealing the cyclical nature of what society deems 'feminine' or 'masculine.'

Through careful curation and typographic design, the publication illuminates fascinating patterns: how masculine-coded elements are repeatedly reinterpreted as feminine statements, how periods of restriction give way to liberation, and how these cycles continue to influence contemporary fashion.

Drawing inspiration from high fashion editorials, the poster series marries contemporary magazine aesthetics with museum exhibition design. Each poster serves as both an artistic statement and an invitation.

Process
+ Evolution

The following process documentation reveals the meticulous development of both the exhibition materials and catalog design. Together, the posters and catalog create a cohesive narrative bridging historical documentation and contemporary design. The project demonstrates how exhibition design can transform scholarly research into an engaging visual experience,
